Ernoul stumbled to his knees, weak with exhaustion. His element of surprise had failed him. Ismail stormed closer and batted Ernoul’s sword from his hand. It flew spinning to fall on the stone flagging and slid to rattling stop some distance away. The light of the blade faded without his touch.
